Who are Loison?

Loison is a third-generation family business in the Veneto. Tranquillo Loison opened a pastry shop in Costabissara in 1938. His son Alessandro perfected the family’s panettone recipe in the 1950s and set up the company in 1969. Today it’s run by Alessandro’s son Dario Loison and his wife Sonia Pilla, who designs the distinctive, elegant packaging that makes Loison panettone so easy to give as a gift.

What makes Loison panettone special

Panettone began as the Christmas bread of Milan: a rich, sweet dough made with butter and eggs and proved slowly to give it a tall dome and a soft crumb that pulls apart in strands. Loison bake theirs with natural yeast and choose their ingredients with real care. They use free-range eggs from Veneto farms, mountain milk and butter, Italian sugar and Madagascan vanilla. Many of their flavoured panettone use named Italian specialities such as Calabrian Diamante citron, Sicilian Ciaculli mandarins and Bronte pistachios.

How to enjoy panettone

Serve it in thick slices with coffee or a glass of sweet wine, or toast it lightly and spread it with butter. Leftovers make excellent French toast and a very good bread and butter pudding.
