"Hevva!" was the cry raised from the Cornish cliffs when a shoal of pilchards was spotted offshore, calling the fishermen to their boats. Cornish sardines are those same fish, so this tin brings the name back to where it started. The sardines are caught by ring net close to the Cornish shore and bought at Newlyn fish market. They go straight to Hevva!'s cannery at Norton Barton in Bude, North Cornwall, where every fish is prepared by hand and canned on site. Very few fish canneries operate in the UK. This is British fish from our own waters, caught, prepared and tinned in Cornwall.
Before canning, the sardines are dry-cured with salt, brown sugar, smoked paprika and black pepper, then packed in rapeseed oil. The cure firms up the flesh and brings out a rich, slightly sweet flavour with a gentle smokiness. Eat them straight from the tin on hot buttered toast or sourdough, or flake them into pasta with lemon, chilli and parsley. They also make a very good addition to a summer salad of tomatoes, red onion and capers.
Ready to eat straight from the tin. Serve at room temperature on toast, crackers or bread, or warm through gently in a pan. Keep the oil: it carries the smoky cure and makes a good base for a dressing or for frying breadcrumbs to scatter over pasta.

Very impressed with the service provided by the Somerset Foodie- excellent communication, carefully wrapped goods, personal touch with a hand written note - a lovely feeling that you are dealing with real people 😊 who care!
Very delicious beans. Quick to cook after overnight soak.
Always speedy delivery, always perfect products, great prices, always tell all my friends about Somerset Foodie. Planning to visit soon. Great coms too Ben!
I bought this honey as I'd heard that consuming honey produced by bees local to where you live, I live in west Wiltshire, helps with pollen allergies. No idea if that's true, but this is beautifully tasting, quite unlike anything bought in a supermarket. Worth buying.
