Fionagh's Cornish Buttermilk Crackers are made with buttermilk in place of the sourdough base used elsewhere in the range, giving a lighter, more tender crumb and a gentle tang. They're baked at Norton Barton Artisan Food Village near Bude, the collaborative Cornish food hub that Fionagh Harding and her husband built from their 350-acre farm. Where the sourdough crackers snap, these have more of a short, biscuity break - closer to a savoury shortbread than a classic water biscuit.

That lighter, more tender texture makes them especially good with softer things - a wedge of ripe brie, a spoonful of clotted cream and chutney, or a slice of smoked salmon and cream cheese. They're forgiving with sweeter pairings too: try them with a soft cheese and a spoonful of fig or apple preserve for something that works equally well before or after dinner. Serve a few alongside a bowl of soup for something a little richer than a plain water biscuit.

Why we love it:

  • Made with fresh buttermilk rather than a sourdough base, for a lighter, more tender crumb than the rest of the range
  • Baked at Norton Barton Artisan Food Village, the Cornish food hub founded by Fionagh Harding and her husband near Bude
  • A gentler flavour that lets soft cheeses, cured fish and preserves lead
  • Works well on grazing boards that mix sweet and savoury, not just a classic cheeseboard

How to use:

  • Top with a slice of ripe brie or camembert and a spoonful of fig chutney for an easy starter
  • Pair with smoked salmon, a little cream cheese and a squeeze of lemon
  • Serve alongside a cheese course as a lighter alternative to the sourdough crackers, especially with softer cheeses
  • Crumble over a bowl of soup in place of croutons for a softer bite
