Pippa Middlehurst was the winner of the BBC series 'Britain's Best Home Cook' and her beautiful book explores the traditional cooking techniques of some of our best loved Asian dishes. Whilst flicking through the pages, I couldn't help but think that the shot of Pippa's pantry could have been taken in our little shop!
Included in the set are ingredients that appear time and again in the recipes and are often quite hard to come by.
Chinkiang Black Rice Vinegar, 550ml
Black Rice Vinegar has a wonderful complex flavour. It's slightly smoky, slightly sweet with a sharpness that lifts and accentuates flavours.
Shaoxing Wine, 600ml
Shaoxing rice wine is a key ingredient in many Chinese dishes. Just like Western cooking uses red or white wine, Shaoxing Wine adds depth and complexity to your dishes. You can use the amber coloured wine in stir-fries, marinades, sauces and braised dishes.
Lao Gan Ma Crispy Chilli Oil, 210g
An essential ingredient in many noodle and dumpling dishes
Sichuan Peppercorns, 30g
Sichuan Pepper - sometimes spelt Szechuan - is named after the province in the South West of China and is one of the most popular cuisines in the country. The region is well known for hot and spicy food, which often combines hot chillies and these aromatic, fragrant, slightly mouth-numbing Sichuan peppercorns.
Sau Tao Egg Noodles, 454g
Just like Italian pasta, there are countless different shapes and sizes of Asian noodles, often made with different ingredients and using different manufacturing methods. If you are not making your own noodles, it's worth spending just a little extra on really good ones and the Sau Tao noodles are fantastic.
