With a stronger, nuttier and more aromatic flavour, black sesame seeds are common right across Asia. They are effectively the same ingredient as the more common white sesame seeds, just with their hulls still intact. It's great to use black and white sesame in tandem.
These seeds have already been roasted so they can be used straight from the packet. Use them in rice dishes, scatter them in soups and broths, over noodles and salads - they have a lovely crunchy texture.
