Red Miso, 500g


Miso is made by fermenting soy beans with salt and something called koji, a starter culture made from naturally occurring molds. It's a paste that has varying degrees of pungency, red is the strongest. Miso is most commonly associated with Miso Soup, a Japanese broth served with ramen noodles.

The flavour of miso is very distinct and has wonderful umami properties and works as a brilliant seasoning for so many things. Mix a little with butter as serve with grilled steak, fish or vegetables. Add a little to vegetarian soups and stews, whisk some into salad dressings or use a marinade with mirin and sake. There are so many ways to boost flavour with a tub of miso in your fridge.
